Once a year in October, the California Veterans Association’s Foundation host an event called Stand Down.  The phrase “stand down,” is a military term  and means “to be at rest.”  It was a time to get off the battlefield, rest and clean up in a safe environment. For many veterans, leaving the service for civilian life is not an easy transition.  instead it is too often filled with mental issues, trouble finding work, and homelessness.

On October 11th,2012 we were asked to participate again for a second year. There were 40 other service providers whose services ranged from haircuts, food, showers, and flu shots to information on jobs, affordable housing, mental health, legal assistance and much, much more.
