Volunteer Spotlight: Judy Ackley

Judy is a longtime CASA Volunteer turned Family Engagement Advocate for CASA of Adams and Broomfield Counties.

She was recently assigned to work with a family who has been living in their car for three months after moving to Colorado from out-of-state. The Dad has been doing all he can to make ends meet, so the family has money to eat and stay in a hotel once a week to shower and wash clothes. The child loves school and his parents have made it a priority to get him to school each day.

After just five days working with this family, Judy made them an appointment with A Precious Child, and took them to Broomfield FISH where they met with a housing facilitator and are set up to shop for food once a week until they’re in permanent housing. Judy worked with the school to let the Dad be able use their address so he can get a Colorado driver’s license, which he needs to begin the job he’s looking at. The young boy’s favorite subject is math and he wants to be a police officer when he grows up. The school also held a fundraiser and raised enough money for the family to stay in a hotel for a week.

Judy has already made such a difference for this family, thank you so much!
