"A Place Called Home" Book Club

  • Advocates for Children 16965 Pine Lane Parker, CO, 80134 United States (map)

Advocates for Children is starting a new book club led by Marie Thompson and Mai Shapiro!

Through this book club, volunteers can connect with other CASAs, get their continuing education (CE) hours, and read books that improve and inspire their service to children.

The first book club will take place on April 23rd at 6:00PM in person at the CASA office. We will be reading "A Place Called Home" by David Ambroz. We have some copies available for pickup at the office for attendees to take home.

We hold this memoir dear at Advocates for Children CASA. Told with lyricism and sparkling with warmth, "A Place Called Home" depicts childhood poverty and homelessness as it is experienced by so many young people who have been systematically overlooked and unprotected. It’s at once a gripping personal account of deprivation—how one boy survived it and ultimately thrived—and a resounding call for readers to move from empathy to action.

After reading the book and attending the book club, you will earn 4.5 hours towards your CE hours. The deadline for CE is June 30th, so this book club is at the perfect time to get some last-minute hours!
